Body Alignment Therapy
Body Alignment Therapy at LifeShine is a gentle, hands-on approach that looks beyond the site of pain to understand how your body functions as a connected whole. Every step you take, every hour spent at a desk, every old injury, every repetitive movement leaves its mark. Over time, muscles tighten, connective tissue adapts, joints begin to compensate, and movement patterns become less efficient. Often the discomfort isn’t caused by one isolated area at all, but by a chain of compensations developing throughout the body.
Rather than forcing the body into an idealised posture, the aim of Body Alignment Therapy is to reduce restrictions, restore balance between muscles and fascia, and help you move with greater ease, comfort and confidence.
Depending on your individual assessment, treatment may include gentle soft tissue techniques, myofascial release, joint mobilisation, assisted stretching and movement guidance. These approaches are designed to improve tissue mobility, reduce excessive muscle guarding and encourage more efficient movement throughout the body.
Every appointment begins with a discussion about your health history, lifestyle and any symptoms you may be experiencing. During your assessment, your therapist evaluates posture, movement, muscular tension and fascial restrictions. This allows them to focus not only on where discomfort is present, but on the underlying patterns contributing to it. Every session is tailored to the individual because no two bodies adapt in exactly the same way.
Treatment is performed at a pace that is comfortable for you. Some techniques are deeply relaxing, while others may involve gentle stretching or pressure to release areas of longstanding tension. Many clients notice an immediate feeling of increased freedom of movement after treatment. Others experience more gradual improvements as the body adapts to moving differently over the following days.
Because your body continues to respond after treatment, your therapist may also recommend simple stretches, movement advice or postural awareness techniques to help maintain your progress between sessions.
What the science says
Research suggests that manual therapy can improve joint mobility, increase range of motion and positively influence posture and movement patterns, particularly when combined with appropriate exercise and movement education. Rather than “realigning” bones or permanently correcting posture, current evidence supports manual therapy as a way of influencing the body’s neuromuscular system to move more efficiently and with less discomfort.
This reflects our philosophy at Lifeshine. Lasting change rarely comes from forcing the body into position. It comes from restoring movement, reducing restrictions and allowing the body to function as it was designed to.
Effects of manual therapy on body posture: Systematic review and meta-analysis (2022)
A 2022 systematic review found that manual therapy can improve aspects of posture, including forward head posture, thoracic kyphosis and pelvic alignment. Importantly, the researchers concluded that these improvements are typically seen over the short to medium term and that manual therapy works best alongside other approaches, such as movement and exercise, rather than replacing them.

Research into passive joint mobilisation suggests that manual therapy works by influencing the body’s neuromuscular system, helping muscles and joints work together more efficiently. This supports the modern understanding that the benefits of manual therapy come not from physically “realigning” the body, but from improving the way it moves and functions.
