Enema
Therapy
At LifeShine, enema therapies are offered as gentle, purposeful interventions that work with the body’s own systems of elimination, renewal and repair. Each enema serves a distinct role, yet all are rooted in the same principle: when the lower digestive tract is supported with care and precision, the effects are often felt far beyond digestion alone.
When life’s pressures, emotional strain, dietary shifts, medication use or chronic stress weigh on the body, the liver and digestive system often carry the burden quietly.
Coffee enemas are traditionally used to support liver and blood detoxification. Using brewed organic coffee, the therapy gently engages the colon and encourages bile flow, supporting internal detox mechanisms the body already relies on. Many clients describe a sense of lightness, clearer thinking, improved energy and relief from digestive stagnation following sessions, as though internal congestion has begun to ease and circulation has been restored.
Bravo enemas focus on rebuilding and nourishing the gut microbiome. Made from specialised probiotic cultures, these treatments introduce beneficial organisms directly into the colon, where they can support microbial balance, strengthen the digestive lining and encourage resilience within the gut environment. Bravo therapy is often chosen after periods of antibiotic use, illness, prolonged stress or dietary upheaval, when the digestive system needs replenishment rather than stimulation.
CDS enemas are offered in specific contexts where microbial balance and detox support are priorities. These treatments are approached with careful assessment and guidance, recognising that the body’s tolerance and needs vary significantly from person to person. At LifeShine, CDS is never treated as a blanket solution, but as part of a considered therapeutic strategy when appropriate.
Ozonated glycerine enemas are used primarily to support localised cleansing and tissue health within the lower bowel. The combination of ozone and glycerine allows for gentle contact with the intestinal lining, supporting oxygenation and cleansing without aggressive stimulation. This therapy is often selected when the focus is on local gut integrity, discomfort or stagnation rather than systemic detoxification.
Every enema session at LifeShine begins with a conversation. Your history, current challenges and overall wellbeing guide the choice of therapy and the way it is administered. Practitioners work with sensitivity and presence, adjusting the approach to suit your system, whether your priority is detox support, microbiome restoration, energy recovery or reconnection with bodily rhythms.
Many clients experience the greatest benefit through a series of sessions, allowing the body to release gradually and rebuild steadily. These therapies integrate naturally into LifeShine’s broader framework of care, working alongside hydration, nutrition, movement, rest and emotional regulation to support internal balance over time.
At LifeShine, enema therapies are offered with respect for the body’s intelligence and timing. Healing is not forced or rushed. It unfolds as the body feels safe enough to let go of what it has been holding, and steady enough to restore what has been depleted.
What the science says
Research into enemas as a route of therapeutic support is still emerging, yet several scientific and practitioner-oriented sources describe mechanisms relevant to the protocols. While large clinical trials are limited, the physiological principles and observed effects help frame how these therapies may support natural detoxification pathways and digestive balance.
Clinical Trial of Ozonated Water Enema for the Treatment of Fibromyalgia: A Randomized, Double-Blind Trial (2025)
A randomized, double-blind clinical trial published in Pain Physician (2025) reported that ozonated water enemas reduced pain, anxiety and sleep disturbances in individuals with fibromyalgia, along with improvements in gut microbiome measures when compared to control.
Wattenberg L. et al. — Increased GST activity through coffee compounds (1978–1982)
Coffee enemas and liver detox pathways. Compounds found in coffee, including cafestol and kahweol, have been shown to increase the activity of glutathione S-transferase (GST) — one of the body’s key detoxification enzymes. Research from the late 1970s and early 1980s demonstrated marked increases in GST activity in animal models, suggesting a biochemical basis for the “internal cleansing” often associated with coffee enemas.
Lee YJ. et al. Pilot study on coffee enemas for bowel preparation (2014)
A 2014 pilot study explored the use of coffee enemas in bowel preparation for endoscopy, providing clinical insight into how coffee enemas interact with the colon and influence bowel clearance.
Xiang S. et al. Gut microbiota recovery model using FMT (2021)
Bravo enemas and gut microbiome support. Bravo probiotics contain strains designed to help support the microbiome. While research specifically on “Bravo enemas” is limited, adjacent studies in microbiome restoration — particularly those involving direct introduction of microbes to the colon — provide context for how such an approach may influence flora and gut health.
FMT (fecal microbiota transplantation), delivered through enemas in medical settings, has demonstrated the ability to restore microbial composition and function after disruption.
