What to expect when you begin your journey with LifeShine
Most clients arrive not because something dramatic has happened, but because something has been happening for too long.
Your body carries you through every demand, every stress and every season of change. At LifeShine, we focus on supporting the system that supports your life, helping restore balance, clarity and the natural ease your body is designed to hold.
Your journey begins with a conversation, a first gentle step into listening, understanding and possibility. When you reach out, we connect you with Dr Helen Stutz, Dr Carel Bredell or Dr Oliver Macleod‑Smith. Dr Stutz, a molecular microbiologist and co‑founder of LifeShine, brings scientific insight and a deeply personal appreciation for holistic wellness. Dr Bredell, a general practitioner experienced in functional and lifestyle medicine, offers seasoned wisdom in guiding people from overwhelm toward balance and vitality. Dr Macleod‑Smith, trained in conventional medicine yet pursuing alternative and adjunctive approaches to long‑term health and chronic conditions, combines his medical expertise with a curiosity for integrative pathways that support the body’s innate resilience.
During your primary consultation, you are invited to share your history, your experience, how you feel, what feels heavy, what feels depleted, and what you miss feeling inside your body. There is no judgement, no quick fix, only curiosity, careful listening, and a commitment to seeing you as a whole person.
From this foundation, we craft a bespoke protocol just for you, combining elements of oxygenation, detox support, bodywork and emotional or energetic care, whichever combination reflects what your body is asking for now. The result is not a one size fits all treatment package, but a living, evolving plan designed to restore internal flow, support balance and honour your unique biology and story.
As LifeShine practitioners guide you through the early sessions, you begin to notice small shifts: renewed energy, lighter breathing, softened tension, calmer mind, greater clarity. Over time, these shifts accumulate. Often before you know it, what once felt overwhelmed becomes renewed possibility, your body becomes a trusted ally again, and the journey becomes less about fixing one thing and more about reclaiming your natural capacity to thrive.
Questions you may have
What happens during my first consultation?
Your consultation with Dr Helen Stutz, Dr Carel Bredell or Dr Oliver Macleod-Smith, is a relaxed and thorough conversation where we explore your history, current experience, lifestyle and goals. It is an opportunity for you to speak openly and for us to understand what your body may need. From this, a personalised protocol is created to support restoration, balance and natural flow.
How do I decide which therapies I need?
We look at your whole system rather than individual symptoms. Once we understand your patterns, energy levels, stress load and physical concerns, we match you with the therapies that can best support your body. Your plan is always tailored, thoughtful and guided by your readiness and comfort.
Is LifeShine a medical clinic or a wellness centre?
LifeShine sits in a unique space between integrative science and holistic wellness. Our practitioners include a molecular microbiologist, a medical doctor, nurses and experienced therapists. Our focus is on supporting the body’s natural systems rather than diagnosing or treating medical conditions.
Do I have to commit to a long programme?
No. Some clients come for a single therapy or short-term support, while others choose a guided journey over several weeks. Your protocol is shaped around your needs, your time and your goals. There is no pressure to take on more than you feel ready for.
What if I am nervous about starting?
This is very normal. Many clients feel unsure at the beginning. The LifeShine experience is gentle, steady and supported. You are introduced to therapies gradually, and everything is explained clearly before a session begins. You remain in control of the pace.
How soon will I notice changes?
Every person responds differently. Some notice early shifts such as lighter breathing, calmer moods or improved energy. Others experience more gradual change over time. We focus on sustainable restoration rather than quick fixes.
Can I continue my current lifestyle or medication while doing therapies?
Yes. We encourage you to continue with any prescribed medication and to maintain your usual healthy lifestyle unless advised otherwise by your healthcare provider. Our therapies are designed to support the body’s natural processes, not replace medical treatment. If you have concerns, bring them to your consultation.
Are the therapies invasive or uncomfortable?
Most therapies are gentle and non invasive. IV sessions involve a small needle similar to a routine blood draw. Colon hydrotherapy and certain detox sessions involve internal processes that may feel unfamiliar at first but are conducted with care, privacy and professional support.
How often should I come for sessions?
Your practitioner will guide you. Some clients come once a week, others two to three times a week during the early phase of their journey. The frequency is based on your protocol, your goals and your energy levels.
Do I need to follow a special diet?
There is no strict diet required. Simple supportive habits such as staying hydrated, eating whole foods and getting enough rest can help your body respond more smoothly. Your practitioner may offer individual suggestions if helpful.
Can I combine different therapies on the same day?
Yes. Many clients choose to combine therapies in one visit. Your practitioner will recommend combinations that work well together and suit your energy for that day.
Is this suitable if I am going through a stressful period?
Yes. LifeShine is designed to support people through physical strain, emotional overwhelm and times of high stress. Therapies that encourage calm, grounding and improved nervous system regulation can be especially helpful during difficult periods.
Are the treatments covered by medical aid?
The Doctors and Clinical Psychologist consultations are covered by medical aid – all other treatments are not.
Will I have ongoing support?
Yes. Our team stays connected with you throughout your journey. We make adjustments along the way, answer questions and help you recognise the subtle improvements that often appear before major shifts take place.
