Tucked away at LifeShine Wellness Centre, Edible Eden is a place where wholesome ingredients, fresh flavours and thoughtful nutrition come together. Whether you’re joining friends for breakfast or lunch, stocking your freezer with their ready-made meals, or browsing their carefully selected health products, there’s something for every table.
Alongside their delicious vegan and vegetarian dishes, they also offer meals designed to support specific dietary protocols, including Therapeutic Ketogenic and Elimination programmes, making healthy eating easier without compromising on flavour.
Keto
A Therapeutic Ketogenic diet is a very low-carbohydrate, moderate-protein, high-fat eating plan. By significantly reducing carbohydrate intake, the body shifts from using glucose as its primary fuel to producing ketones from fat, a metabolic state known as ketosis.
The diet was originally developed to help manage epilepsy, particularly in children, but has since been studied for other potential applications including:
-
- Weight management
- Improved blood sugar control in some people with type 2 diabetes
- Metabolic syndrome
- Certain neurological conditions (research is ongoing)
At LifeShine, Keto meals are less about following a trend and more about providing a structured nutritional option for people who, under appropriate guidance, may benefit from this way of eating.
It’s worth noting that a ketogenic diet isn’t suitable for everyone. People with certain medical conditions, those taking some medications, and pregnant or breastfeeding women should only follow it under medical supervision.
Elimination
An elimination diet has a completely different goal. It isn’t primarily about weight loss or ketosis. Instead, it’s a short-term, structured process used to identify foods that may be contributing to symptoms.
Common reasons for using an elimination diet include:
-
- Digestive discomfort
- Bloating
- Irritable bowel symptoms
- Skin conditions
- Headaches or migraines
- Fatigue
- Joint pain
- Suspected food sensitivities
Typically, foods that commonly trigger reactions, such as gluten, dairy, soy, eggs, corn, alcohol or processed foods, are removed for several weeks. Symptoms are monitored before foods are gradually reintroduced one at a time to identify individual responses.
Unlike allergy testing, an elimination diet looks for food sensitivities or intolerances, which can be harder to detect because symptoms may appear hours or even days after eating a particular food.
